Black History Month
Black History Month is a time to celebrate and highlight the best of Black History and culture, and to honour the ancestors and upcoming leaders of Black communities, their accomplishments and their continued fight for liberation. This year’s materials feature Jennifer Hodge de Silva, a Montréal-born documentary filmmaker whose ground-breaking work traced the experiences of Black Canadians and gave voice to the many ethnically diverse communities that shape our country. Day of Mourning
One Is Too Many! Every year, on April 28, workers, families, employers, and others come together to remember those who have lost their lives or suffered physical or mental injury or illness as a result of workplace accidents, hazards, or harassment. National Day of Mourning Memorial
The National Day of Mourning commemorates workers who have been killed, injured, or suffered illness due to workplace hazards and incidents. People in Canada, especially workers, often light candles and hold a minute of silence in memory.

Orange Shirt Day
September 30th is Orange Shirt Day, Canada’s national day for Truth & Reconciliation. Please ensure that you are purchasing orange shirts directly from reputable retailers whose proceeds go directly to those impacted by residential schools. You can purchase shirts benefitting the Orange Shirt Society here. Read the TRC Commission’s 94 Calls to Action, and contact CUPE BC to receive TRC pamphlets and booklets to distribute at your community event or workplace.

National Day of Mourning
We remember workers who have died, were injured, or became ill from their jobs. We commit to protecting workers and preventing further workplace tragedies. We grieve for those whose lives were forever changed by a workplace tragedy. April 28th at 6 pm at St. Andrews on the Square - The National Day of Mourning Ceremony.
